Björn will es wieder wissen, es wird einen neuen Rekordversuch geben unter Freunden. Mit dabei neben Initiator Björn Dunkerbeck wird sein:
Robby Naish, Antoine Albeau und Anders Bringdal.
Gefahren wird diesmal nicht in Arinaga, Gran Canaria, sondern in Oaxaca, Mexiko.

Björn war bis vor 3 Wochen dort und ist tagelang ein nur 4.6qm? Speedsegel gefahren...

Next challenge to be held in Mexico in January & February of 2007

During a press conference on February 21st organizers of the World Speed Sailing Challenge and Björn Dunkerbeck announced that they will stage their next speed sailing event in January & February of 2007 in Oaxaca, Mexico

To prepare for this major undertaking a trial on Mexico's Pacific Coast was just completed to define the precise locations where the races will take place in 2007. All locations were surveyed and underwent the official homologation process.

Ich habe gelesen das er bei einem 10ner Wind nen 5,5 Segel oder so ungefähr nutzt, was war das denn dann bitte für nen Wind?! :eek: :lol:

Nach jetzigem Stand der Dinge startet der Event am 14. Januar 2007. Mit dabei sind nicht nur Surfer, sondern diesmal auch Segler.
Die startenden Fahrer stehen noch nicht fest und werden noch bekanntgegeben.
Momentan wird bereits vor Ort gerabeitet und die Infrastruktur verbessert. Im November wird es ein Relaunch der Website (http://www.worldspeedsailing.com) geben.

Diese email erreichte mich soeben, die politische Situation ist zu sehr angespannt, es gibt sogar eine Warnung vom auswärtigen Amt:


Hello Thorsten,

I'm copying you the official text we published in our website announcing we are going to have to postpone the event in Mexico until the political situation in the State of Oaxaca stabilizes.

This is a decision we took together with our sponsors with the only intention of waiting for a better moment when we can really exploit the super potential the WSSC has in Mexico given the unique conditions the location here offers.

Mexico '07 on hold

After careful monitoring of the political situation in the State of Oaxaca and after evaluating the pros & cons on proceeding, the organizers of the World Speed Sailing Challenge 2007 have decided to postpone the sailing challenge until the situation stabilizes in the region. The races were scheduled to start on January 14th on Mexico's Pacific Coast.

Although the civil unrest was initially limited to the City of Oaxaca there is a high risk that other regions of Oaxaca will become affected. While travel advisories of most embassies have been in effect for some time now, warning of travel to the region, it was the hope of the organizers that by now construction of the village and race related venues could commence, so that the events may start on time.

Given that the statistics do not foresee strong winds beyond the month of March, it is likely that the event will need to be postponed for an entire year, by which time the situation should hopefully have stabilized to allow for a smooth event.

wieso kann man es denn nicht irgendwo anders durchführen???

Hallo...

Es gibt leider nur ein paar Orte auf der Welt, wo planbar sehr sehr viel Wind ablandig weht, dazu genug Platz ist und auch der Winkel des Strandes passt. Der Wind sollte ablandig in einem Winkel von 120-130 Grad wehen, daß man in unmittelbarer Strandnähe fahren kann, denn weiter draussen ist zum Speedsurfen zuviel Welle.
Oaxaca ist einer dieser Orte, leider treiben rebellierende Banden dort mom. ihr Unwesen. Pistole wird am Gürtel getragen, für eine Uhr o.ä. wird man erschossen. Sehr traurig, ich sollte auf dem Event das Timing machen mit einem Livestream ins Internet, so wie wir das bei der Fehmarn Umrundung gemacht haben. Jeder hätte live im Web sehen können, welcher Surfer gerade wo mit welche Geschwindigkeit langzischt. Auch Naish hatte sich angesagt...
Nun muß abgewartet oder ein anderer Spot gefunden werden... :(
