Cabo Verde World Cup - UPDATE

Dear Sailors

Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of the control of the PWA and the local organization, the Cabo Verde PWA World Cup will not take place at the previously published dates.

Despite the current problems, we do still expect the event to take place again, either later in March or at a time and date to be confirmed.

Best regards

The PWA

2008 Cabo Verde PWA World Cup gets Green Light

The positive news that the 2008 PWA Cabo Verde World Cup?s returning to the island of Sal will be met with joy amongst fans and competitors alike.

The event?s set to run from March 7th through 16th, and will once again feature the world?s top-32 men?s wave sailors, who?ll fight for their share of the ?30K prize purse.

Last season?s inaugural event marked a milestone in the sport, when spellbinding conditions surpassed all expectations to make a truly historic event in windsurfing?s history.

The winner, and local hero Josh Angulo, spoke excitedly about the tour?s revisit to Ponta Preta, and his country?s hopes on another victory.

?I?m very pleased to see Sal 2008 come to fruition and the continuance of the World Cup Windsurfing here in Cabo Verde.

I believe the second year for an event?s crucial, and the fact that we?re on again is a testament to the drive of our government and the stability that exists in the islands.

There?s a real buzz here about it and everyone?s looking forward to another successful season and to hosting the world?s best athletes at the world?s best spot.

This time round we?ve improved the on-site infrastructure and created more domestic marketing about the occasion.

Of course we?ll also try to attract many tourists as well as locals.

Ponta Preta?s a natural amphitheatre so we?ll take advantage of that to really showcase Cabo Verde?s ocean sports potential

I?m sure the local crew would all love for me to win again, as would I. But the one that mattered and can never be taken away was last year?s victory.

It?s like winning a world title, Once you?ve done it, as much as you?d like to repeat that, it?s a relief that it?s over with and so the pressure actually goes onto everyone else?.
